LapSurgery Australia’s Weight Loss Solutions

At LapSurgery we offer a range of treatment options for excess weight, ranging from specialist dietitian advice, Intragastric balloon, Sleeve Gastrectomy and Gastric Bypass. For those with a more serious weight problem, especially those with conditions like Type 2 diabetes and hypertension, Gastric Bypass may be recommended. For those who have had previous weight loss surgery and are not happy with the results we may have an option for you. We understand that each patient is unique and recommend discussing your options with one of our Surgeons.

All surgery carries some risks which will be discussed in detail with your Surgeon.

Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy

Sleeve gastrectomy is now the most common operation performed for obesity in Australia. Basically, it is a simple reduction in the volume of the stomach which induces satiety (hunger satisfaction) with greatly reduced food volume. We have performed over 1500 Sleeve gastrectomy procedures since 2006.

At LapSurgery Australia we have performed over 4,000 laparoscopic gastric banding operations. In common with Surgeons in Australia and overseas we usually do not offer this as a first option. We remain happy to discuss this option with you.

Long Term Follow Up

All patients who have had a weight loss operation require long-term follow-up to ensure long term success with weight loss and the changes in nutrition which may be brought about by your operation.

Laparoscopic Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass

Laparoscopic (keyhole) gastric bypass is considered the “gold standard” weight loss operation by the majority of the world’s foremost bariatric (weight loss) surgeons. At LapSurgery we have performed over 1000 Gastric bypass procedures since 2009. It is particularly effective for patients with Type 2 diabetes, PCOS, and gastric reflux.

Revisional Surgery

If you have already had an operation for weight control such as a gastric band and it isn’t working as you had hoped, we have an extensive experience in revisional surgery and we may be able to help.

We offer our expertise both to our own patients and also to those who have had operations with other surgeons.

Intragastric balloon

The intragastric balloon is designed to be inserted into the stomach and inflated to a volume which will restrict the amount you can eat and reduce hunger. This is a temporary procedure which can cause modest weight loss.

Obesity is a very complex disease with many causes. Some of the factors which contribute to obesity are genetics, lifestyle, medications, health conditions and environment. At Lapsurgery we understand how challenging this can make treating obesity and we’re here to help.

Lifestyle, Diet and Exercise

Lifestyle change is the first line in the treatment of obesity. We have a team of dietitians, doctors and nurses who can work together to help you make changes to your lifestyle, environment and thinking to get you on the right track to reach your goals.

The team at LAPSurgery Australia are recognised for their exceptional and major contribution to the Government sponsored Bariatric Safety Registry (BSR). The BSR tracks surgical complications and provides an unbiased safety record for weight loss surgery.
